what people don’t get about percy’s fatal flaw being loyalty is that it isn’t a cop-out resulting from the main character syndrome or rick trying to keep unlikeable traits away from percy–it’s that even a noble trait like loyalty can become bad or fatal to oneself if practiced in extremes. that’s literally the whole point. nothing, absolutely NOTHING is good in excess. that’s why we have the phrase: _____ to a fault. fill in the blank with good attributes all you want, the meaning remains the same. loyalty can and will become a source of moral conflict and self-destruction if not leashed to healthy amounts. and that’s why percy’s extreme loyalty is a flaw because it hurts him and makes him go against the “morally right” thing to do. his loyalty is fatal to his ownself. you cannot call any trait a “good” one if it comes at the cost of harming the one that displays it, can you? loyalty is inherently a good, noble thing to practice but when you stretch it wide, when your personal loyalty to someone blinds you to the hurt it causes others and yourself, when you cannot critique people you’re loyal to (something percy very much struggles with), it becomes a flaw. a fatal one.

Handfasting is legally recognized on Nostromo as long as you have three witnesses: one family member/friend for each spouse, and an outsider in a judicial profession (they do not have to be on the clock, just sign their name)

While things such as wedding rings exist on Nostromo, it's more common to get a wedding tattoo done

Wedding tattoos are the surname of the person's spouse, done on the inside of the left wrist

Wedding tattoos are often done on rainy days, to provide a curtain of privacy for the couple. They begin by washing their hands and wrists in liquorice water, then take turns tattooing their surname (often with a homemade device) on their partner's wrist, comforting and encouraging them through the pain all the while. After the tattoo is complete, it is kissed for good luck. This is often done directly before handfasting

As a derivative of this, some individuals tattoo their own surnames on their right wrist, so that the names will touch when holding hands. Some parents will also tattoo the family's surname onto their child's right wrist, as an act of inclusion, and as an act of hope for their future successes in romance

Princess Ariadne Nevaeh Rose-Corleone

Though it’s not her favorite thing, Ariana is still a (spare) Princess of her country. It’s a very tiny country, but still a country nonetheless. And when Coventry is included in any formal affair alongside Auroria, they show, because of course they do. Ariana had to get her taste for dramatics somewhere.

The colors of Coventry are yellow and teal, their precious metal is silver, and their gemstone is the white diamond. Their symbol is that of the Mockingbird (a bird that is well known for mimicking the songs of others) and the Pegasus (the symbol of King Jedrick’s home Kingdom of Aalidonia, of which he is second to the throne).

The royal family of Coventry includes: Queen Rhea, King Jedrick, Prince Adonis, and Princess Ariadne.

Their main export is an exquisite array of wine (some of the best in Auradon), as well as other agriculture like grapes, hops and barley. Though small, Coventry is quite lush and profitable as a territory, and is very popular with tourists and honeymooners for its beautiful vineyards, rivers, and wine tasting.

Ariana has a love hate relationship with her home. She loves it dearly, having spent much of her childhood exploring the rolling fields and running amongst the vines while the staff picked grapes. But there’s also a lot of hurt embedded in her, as her parents always wanted a son, putting their new baby boy above everything in their hearts, including her. She has no scorn towards Coventry itself, nor any towards her people. But she has a lot of spite and a lot of hatred for her mother, father, and brother, making returning for long periods of time a painful and difficult experience.

Struggling With Your Worldbuilding? Here's Some Help!

Alright, so. Worldbuilding. It's either your favorite thing in the world, or the bane of your existence. Either way, I'm here to help.

Worldbuilding, for me is a very long, tedious, and never ending process. Like everything I output, I base a lot of my things on vibes and aesthetic and personal feeling. It's all innate. However, I can't teach innate so let me tell you about the "routes" I go on when I'm mapping a world.

When it comes to worldbuilding, whether you're writing fanfic or something original, I found there are two roads you can go down when building up your lore:

Character-Based Worldbuilding and Fact-of-Life Worldbuilding.

Character-based worldbuilding is exactly how it sounds--it's a matter of feeling out the character and seeing what it is they like to do and how they function. From there, you might find "oh they like to do X, I want them to do X in the plot." From there, you can determine how X would work its way into your world, and from there you continue to ask yourself questions to further build your blocks upward.

I find it's really helpful to start with a character and find things you want to see them doing, then spark the road of block-building questions by kicking off with a "okay, how can I get this to work?" And this can go for a major plot point, or something as trivial as a side scene. And prepare to KEEP ASKING QUESTIONS because things will continuously pop up as you think about it and consider different angles, etc. etc. etc.

Fact-of-life worldbuilding can come from little puzzle pieces and inklings of things you want to see built into any given world and basically doing the same as above and crafting upward. This can go for a major plot point or some background lore that doesn't see much of the light of day but is there to help build a more lived-in world.

Still unsure of where to begin? There's also room to look at a story and think "what am I writing? What aesthetic/vibe do I want out of this?" and once you can answer that, do some visual intake to jump start your brain.

Look up things that are in line with the vibe you want. Watch shows that follow an aesthetic you crave. Read books in a similar bracket. Take notes of the things you've seen and push and mold them together in a way that reflects what you're going for.

FOR EXAMPLE, my WIP is heavily noir-esque, gothic, dark, so I took in a lot of content that catered to my desired vibes. While doing that, it helped me build into the "routes" I have.

I watched certain scenes of Attack on Titan, and as I witnessed the titans obliterate everything, I decided "Okay, I want the eldritch beasts in my world to get big enough to obliterate everything, what do I need to do within my world, that fits the setting and isn't directly copying AoT that can make that happen?"

When I watched Bridgerton and saw these women in flowing dresses in a regency aesthetic, I said "I want to put my protagonist in that aesthetic in this story, with a modern, darker, twist, so what needs to happen in the universe to get there, why would that aesthetic exist in a modern society?"

When I watched Hunger Games and saw all the capital people mingling around one another at the Victor's Ball in Catching Fire, I said "I want a scene like that in my fic, what needs to happen in universe for that to make sense?"

Likewise, I witness a lot of dumb shit irl, or am apart of certain things, or hear certain things and just think "I want that in my story, how do I need to build my world to get these things to fit?"

It's a lot of trial and error and cutting and reshaping. The world for my current WIP took me 10 years to build up and to this day I am still chipping away at it and changing things about it.

Side note, but I also always encourage working both major plot worldbuilding and trivial worldbuilding, because oftentimes major plot worldbuilding can lead to trivial worldbuilding and vice versa, and you should never knock the background shit. It gives readers stuff to theorize and speculate about aside from the plot, which I think is always fun. And again, that helps provides a very lived in world, which should always be the goal.

Wyrm Lore/Biology: weird little freaks

y’all know the drill! This one’s gonna be a bit shorter tho cause I’ve done lots on Wyrms before.

Lore:

There’s a couple different of creation myths amongst Wyrms. The first story goes that the first Wyrms were born when the primordial god of Hunger died, the first Wyrms were born of the lowliest of creatures who ate of Hungers corpse, upon eating him they grew and grew and as they did so too did their appetites until they scoured the land clean of life and created the wastes we know today.

The second regard pale beings, and specifically pale Wyrms, it says that as Hunger fell some of his fangs were knocked loose and fell into the caverns below. These fangs were brilliant and shining, and in time were worshiped, turning into the first Pale Wyrms.

The final one suggested that when Hunger was killed his guts spilled out into the world, and began to chase after his killer becoming Wyrms in the process.

All of these are equally plausible, though the Pale King personally cleaves to the last myth and knows how pale beings currently come into being.

Biology:

They have and endo and exoskeleton, in a manner similar to tortoises and ocean sunfish. Their exoskeleton is made of a mix of chitin and various mineral and metals they’ve consumed over their lives.

They have several hearts, and occasionally grow more as they gain length.

They can’t clone themselves when split however, and only the front half of the wyrm survives in the very rare circumstance that they’re split.

Wyrms produce an extremely potent stomach acid that helps dissolve rocks and minerals. Additionally Wyrms have a series of specialized channels and organs that help bring some of this acid up to coat their burrowing and throat teeth, this is part of how they can burrow through dense stone with ease.

This acid is obviously more efficient when used on reactive stones. Because of this young or weakened Wyrms generally prefer regions composed primarily of carbonate minerals and limestones.

Wyrms are actually fantastic swimmers, partially due to necessity. Wyrms must always be prepared for the possibility of burrowing into a void pocket, flooded cave, or aquifer. Because of this Wyrms also have several adaptations to deal with being submerged, including the ability to take in oxygen through their cloaca(look up snapping turtles, you can’t make this shit up 💀)

That said Wyrms don’t like being wet at all, and too much humidity can cause molting issues in young Wyrms.

Wyrms generally don’t dream, and also struggle greatly with using essence and other dream related abilities, this is because they are largely beings of the physical world.

The dreamtale twins can’t easily force someone to feel anything without having something to go off of.

They can nudge you in the direction they want you to go, but they have to have something to work off of first.

Dream can encourage positivity by a very simple thread of neutral emotion. Neutral can be coaxed into relaxation, or calm. From there it can be lifted into something a bit greater, like happiness or content. From there you can snowball; Joy! Excitement! Elation! Wonder! All from a single state of neutrality.

Nightmare can encourage negativity from the same neutral state. He can nudge neutral calm into a more hollow and empty feeling, from there he can push for anxiety or helplessness. Then fear, dread, terror, depression.

It’s a very simple pipeline that can be moved through in seconds if they really pushed it, neutrality is a very easy emotion to work off of.

Direct opposites require more effort then it’s likely worth. But some emotions is like a color with slightly different shades.

An example; bright yellow would be anticipation or excitement while a darker yellow could be anxiety or nervousness. They are close enough that it would only take a bit of nudging to get one to shift into the other. They exist within the same vein.

Let’s use this example with Nightmare, To bring someone from excitement to something like dread, he’d have to purposely guide their emotions. Whispers of doubt, second guessing, suspicion, paranoia. Little bits of darkness can fairly easily turn that anticipation to anxiety. They’re similar enough that it wouldn’t require much effort on Nightmare’s part, it’s just shift in the way the person perceives and experiences that emotion.

But if, say, Dream was trying to coax a person from depression into happiness, direct opposites, he would have a bit more difficulty.

First he’d have to stop the person from further spiraling, like putting down a net to keep them from falling any lower. A net of positivity that keeps them from careening towards the ground. Then he’d have to nudge them into lesser negatives first.

He can coax depression into resignation, then push through grief into acceptance. Bits of positivity to smooth out their turbulent emotions into something lighter.

Acceptance; this is the way things are, no need to keep felling down about it! Bits of light, it could be worse!

From there, Dream can guide them into a state of calm, or at least near enough that he won’t have to work as hard to get something more positive out of them. Happiness! Enjoy the moment! Live! Experience!

Needless to say… the drastic back and forth between a wide verity of influenced emotions ends up putting a strain on the soul.

Constant exposure to either of twins abilities without the opportunity to properly self regulate has some… undesirable consequences.

I think they had a good relationship, I also hc Joker was the younger brother who had to stay at home with his dad while his older brother just went away and never came back for him, just leaving him alone with all the mess at home.

His mum was also a drunken but at least she cared about him, deeply.

I guess this is a think piece continuation to a backstory ask I had back in May!

If Joker did have a relationship with his mom, now that I think about it more; (I have to disagree with myself back in May) it would probably be very protective.

Joker drinks his feminine juice thank you very much so he took majority of the abuse in order to protect her. There's no hard feelings between mother/son despite the crappy living situation.

If she’s still alive (omg the possibilities) she would be set for life, a literal queen.

She hasn’t a clue what her son does up in the big city—all she knows is that a nice man drops off a duffel bag each month with money and a handwritten note from her son. She ain’t complaining but it would be nice to see her son..

Joker crafts each letter with a shocking amount of love and care. A completely different man emerges when he writes to his mother and she keeps each one and treasures them dearly.

Her name is the password for many important things in Joker’s operations. He's so far removed from his old life, no one is the wiser. If J dies, there’s even a protocol in place for his mom (and you of course).

Things obviously weren’t easy growing up with a deadbeat father so Joker makes sure his mother is happy now and lives life comfortably.

He can never visit her (duh his scars and he's kinda ashamed of who he's become) but he thinks of her as much as he does his Light. So like everyday.

I can guarantee you Joker killed his father. Moving right along.

Any siblings would no longer matter to Joker. They either deserted him and Mom or they didn’t help fight back when J got fed up for the last time…Joker considers that a sign of weakness. They’re dead to him.

Joker dreams one day that his Light will get to meet his mom (if she's still alive. We don't know how old she is)

He wants the two most important women in his life to know each other. One is from his past, the other his future.

Random Lore Drop 1

“Cupids” are a subspecies of birdfolk that specifically have 3 forms: Human w/ minimal bird features, a Cherub-like creature that resembles their bird type, and full-avian. Much like the mythology, some actually do carry a bow and arrow while others don’t indulge in the study of love. If anything, they just do their own thing.

With Cotton Candy, she works in postal services and poetry writing (a personal hobby). She enjoys delivering love letters, chocolates, flowers, romantic items in her cherub form and doesn’t ask for a tip. The only time she uses a bow and arrow is when both parties of a relationship want such a thing. Yes, different types of arrows for a cupid’s bow exist. Just remember to look at the labeling before shooting!! 🕊️💌🌹

You know, Ninjago could be simple with just a "here's the 16 parallel realms", but they went :

"Nah, this one realm is inside of a monster living in another realm but is also connected to a third realm. This one is more isolated than the others, but it's different from that one which is the first one to ever exist – all of the others have been created by the main character's grandpa who's basically god. A few of them we won't tell you if they're actual realms or just different places in a same realm so you have to guess ; this one is so chaotic we have to precise it's the same realm every single time because you just wouldn't be able to guess. This one got destroyed at some point and is slowly recreating since then. Here's a realm but we won't tell you how it's called, and here's the name of a realm but we never actually showed you how it looks. Years in this realm are equal to weeks in the others. Some realms are aware the others exist but some aren't. One of them may or may not predict the destinies of all the other realms, and one of them got a kinda matrix organisation opening portals wherever they want. One of the realms is actually the world of another show that flopped so we crossovered it with our own. People are using magic tea to travel from a realm to another, but they also can use rituals or similar things... Except dragons, because they can naturally go to whatever realms they want. Also, you don't know all of the realms yet but they all merged before we told you so now you have almost no way to know where does a place come from if we don't explicitly tell you ; but also they aren't completely merged yet so they still somehow separately exist. At first, elemental powers were only from one realm but since the merge, anyone from any realm can get them. All of this in a show in which time travel is a thing of course, so good luck memorising the lore I guess 😀"

Giving birth to a zombie is extremely traumatic to your body. The pregnancies are difficult, the birth is violent due to the feral nature of zombies in their natural state, and they receive next to no medical aid. It’s why so many zombies are raised by single fathers, why those who are lucky enough to still have their mom around are usually only children. To survive one pregnancy is rare enough, but a second zombie pregnancy is honestly testing fate at that point.

Zed’s mother died giving birth to Zoey. It’s all she’s ever known, though it’s not as hard on her when most of her zombie friends have similar family dynamics. At least in that way she’s not the odd one out. Zed did know his mom, he’d been old enough to understand what was happening when she started to get sicker and sicker as the pregnancy progressed. He refused to eat or speak for days after his dad had come home from the hospital alone with Zoey in his arms, without the woman who’d raised him, who was so kind and beautiful and genuine.

When Addison told him she was pregnant, he nearly threw up from the sudden, intense fear that surged over him like a tidal wave, threatening to knock him over. The memories came rushing back, memories he tried so hard not to think about. But this time it was Addison instead of his mom. In his nightmares, he watched her body grow skinnier as the zombie baby drained the life from her, stole her nutrients, kicked at her until she couldn’t keep anything down. He’d heard horror stories from others with similar experiences as his own, other zombies who were old enough to remember the loss of their mother.

He had never spoken to Addison about his mom before, but he couldn’t exactly keep it from her when she looked at him with such worry in her eyes, like she thought he was upset with her rather than angry at the world for making such unfair situations. So he opened up, cried into her arms as he described his feelings in detail that he’d never told anyone, not even his dad, not even Eliza.

“I won’t leave you,” Addison promised, “I’ll fight even if it seems impossible. I told you that someday we would have our happily ever after and no one can take that from us.”

In my universe, mascots are divided in two large guilds: Olympians and Claners.

Olympians are individuals who embody the Olympic values, striving to safeguard life and promote the use of sporting competitions as an alternative to traditional forms of conflict. Upon attaining the status of Olympian, they receive a ring, also known as a stigma, which symbolizes their most exemplary value; such as perseverance, integrity, sportsmanship, excellence, or brotherhood. This is done through a ceremonial process, or in some exceptional casses, by being blessed by the archons.

The Claners are members of the FIFA CLAN, an organization that controls the mascots of FIFA events and associated confederations, promoting soccer as an alternative to the evils of the world, and also highlighting the vices of the Olympians. They gain power through amulets and spells, and have ranks marked by stars (gold, silver and bronze), assigned according to the role and rank of their members.
